HOW WE HELP

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Students and teachers across the state are tackling the challenge of how to hold class while schools are closed due to coronavirus.
In Charlotte, one charter school is getting students engaged through virtual learning.
Once a week, a teacher with Aristotle Preparatory Academy hosts a live lesson plan from their house to keep students on track with classwork. Students can use Google Hangout or other apps to join the live session and learn their math and reading lessons for the week.
Jasmine Cox is running the virtual learning for the school, and says she’s trying to adjust as quickly as she can to make sure her students are thriving out of the classroom.
“I am a face-to-face teacher, I love communicating with others because I’m teaching to my students’ learning styles every day. So there are some kids who thrive in this territory,” Cox says. “This is a learning curve for me as well, to try and figure out how can I be the best educator that I can be every day and serve my students at whatever level or whatever state of mind that they’re in.”
Aristotle Preparatory Academy is also running bus routes every day to drop off food to students. They are also using the routes to drop off assignments twice a week so students can stay up to date on their work.
